when the computer shuts down and keymouse is connected via usb, does that send the keymouse into bluetooth standby mode, looking for devices to connect, or is there some kind of a sensor/switch that detects if the usb cable is connected, and then just powers the device off instead.
I'm switching the power button to off every time I shut down the computer, and am wondering if maybe I don't have to do that. Don't want the device to be in standby unnecessarily.

Kresimir Spes Whether on USB or Bluetooth, the devices automatically go into "sleep" mode when they have not been used for 10-15 minutes. It was designed to save battery life when using via Bluetooth, so I would imagine it would be the same when you power off your computer and they are still connected via USB, since they no longer receive power. You should not have to turn the devices off.
well sure, but I tend to leave the office for extended periods of time, and I don't like my devices to be in standby mode for long. but maybe that's just me.
do you know, if the device wakes up periodically to check for connections, or does it only wake up from sleep when a key is pressed? As far as I can tell, apple mice and keyboards wake up periodically and constantly listen to bluetooth traffic when in standby.

The sleep mode activates based on time with no activity with the keyboard or mouse (10 min or so).
You must press a key or move the mouse for it to try to re-connect. It does not periodically try to re-connect.
