It has recently come to my attention that bearings in some trackballs such as the Logitech MX Ergo are static, but since the bearings are so smooth, it feels as if they're moving under your fingertips.

So, this raises a question about the keymouse track bearings as well, were they designed to spin within their socket or to be static, having the trackball glide over them?

The white ceramic balls are static in the plastic. Since they are circular and have a very small point of contact with the trackball, it causes low friction as long as they are kept clean. I think this is how many other trackballs are.

Maaan, what a mind-blower, because of the feel, I always thought they spun within the casing, a lot of things make sense now, thanks :)

Honestly, at first I thought they spun within the casing as well (on other devices) until we started to build KeyMouse Track :)
